**This is a collaborative post, please read our disclosures here**

While everyone knows the Iconic places to visit on the coasts of the United States, fewer travelers tend to venture into the interior of the country. And this is a great shame! There is so much to appreciate in so many of the inner states. For example, we will take a closer look at Kentucky in this post.

By the end, you will convinced that this is a great spot for your next vacation. You could even book a hotel in Somerset, Kentucky. Here are some of the top things to see and do while you are in Kentucky.

Kentucky Derby

Naturally of course! Even if you don’t know anything else about the state, you must have heard of the Kentucky Derby. Grab your biggest hat and visit Churchill Downs outside of Louisville on the first Sunday in May each year and you will see for yourself what a special event this is. If you simply want to discover a little bit more about the event and its history, you can do this at the Kentucky Derby Museum.

Cumberland Gap National Historical Park

Though Kentucky may not be as famous for its scenery as other parts of the country, there is still plenty to appreciate in the state. And you will see this for yourself at the Cumberland Gap National Historical Park. The best views come at the top of the Pinnacle Overview where you can enjoy vistas of the surrounding mountains. Another great hike which you can take on runs to the Hensley Settlement – an old country township which has been very well preserved.

Daniel Boone National Forest

This area of natural beauty is named after the legendary American icon Daniel Boone, and there are plenty of places where you can enjoy nature in all its glory. The centrepiece of the natural forest is the Natural Bridge which was formed by water and wind over many years. Head just a few miles north of here and you will reach the Red River which runs directly through a picturesque gorge. With thousands of acres to explore, there is certainly no shortage of hiking trails which you can embark upon while you are here.

Cumberland Falls State Resort Park

The title of the Niagara of the South has been awarded to this waterfall. Pay a visit yourself to find out why this is the case. There are plenty of walking trails which allow you to take in the sight from various different angles. Again, this is a demonstration of the type of beautiful natural scenery which is here in Kentucky.

As you can see, Kentucky has plenty to see and enjoy, so why not pay a visit for yourself to give yourself the chance to enjoy a different part of the US?
