10 Things to Do in Waco & Austin, TX

Waco & Austin are about 90 minutes away from each other. While this may seem too far for one weekend I think it is definitely worth it! If you plan a long weekend getaway to Austin, plan one day to drive into Waco. That way you get to experience two awesome cities in one weekend!

Waco, TX

Magnolia Table

It has been a dream of mine for years to visit Magnolia Table. If you love Chip & Joanna as much as most people, this is a must do activity! We were unable to make a reservation for breakfast so we went to the togo cafe and got coffee and treats! Everything was absolutely amazing and it was just so adorable!

Magnolia Market

Prepare most of your day to be spent at the Magnolia Market. There is almost always a long line to get in but it is well worth the wait. With shops and restaurants that will please everyone, you may also want to add into your budget some new home decor! It is just too hard to say no once you are inside the market.

Dr. Pepper Museum

Texas is known for Dr. Pepper. To be completely transparent, I do not enjoy the drink. But I find museums like this fascinating and can always appreciate the origin places of any item in pop culture! This is a super neat museum and it fascinated me how engrained the drink is into the Waco culture!

Cultural District

This is a super neat area of downtown Waco. We love exploring arts districts & cultural districts. This was no exception. With tons of local shops and eateries it is the perfect place to walk around and get a feel for the people of Waco.

Trolley Rides

Did you know that most cities have FREE trolleys?! Maybe I just never realized this growing up in Idaho/Utah but it was fascinating to me on our road trip. We hopped on every free trolley we could find and loved it! It is such a fun way to see the city and often times learn about historical events!

Austin, TX

6th Street

If you are looking for live music and night life look no farther than Sixth Street in Austin. We absolutely love cities that have a central location that is walkable for a night on the town. This city block has about everything you could imagine and there is no shortage of entertainment!

SoCo District

Known for South Congress Avenue this part of town is so charming! If you are like us and love going where the locals go it is SoCo in Austin. At least that is what the locals we spoke to said! It has food & shops but also a ton of history! I highly recommend planning half a day to explore this area.

Wall Murals

You shouldn’t be surprised this made my list. I LOVE a city with good wall murals. We rented some scooters and rode around town looking for all the best street art! There was so much to choose from but it was so much fun to find the best pieces.

Mount Bonnell

Don’t let the 102 step stair case keep you from seeing these views! Honestly I thought the stairs would be harder to climb but it was actually pretty easy! We had the best time exploring the area and just taking in the highest point in the city. And at the bottom of the stair case was a snow cone truck for a nice cool down treat!

University of Texas at Austin

It may be because we are college football fans but we love exploring college campuses! We have explored dozens of colleges and this one is definitely worth the visit. Listen, we are not college age anymore but I can almost guarantee we will still love doing this when we are 75 yrs old! So if you are anything like us go find a good place to park and walk around this campus for an afternoon. You won’t be disappointed.
