Dallas / Fort Worth: Best Things To Do In The Metro

Dallas / Fort Worth: Best Things To Do In The Metro

I have always wanted to visit Dallas, TX! It probably stems from my childhood of watching the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders: Making The Team! I can’t be the only one who was addicted to that show circa 2010s! So, I was super excited to visit Dallas on our road trip, but want to know a secret? Fort Worth is WAY BETTER than Dallas! Okay, when I say this I get one of two responses.

1. Aren’t they like the same city? Well, not really. It takes about 40 minutes to get from downtown Fort Worth to downtown Dallas. If you have a car it is doable. If you are Ubering, it is expensive.

2. How can you say that?! Dallas is the main city. It has to be better. Get out of here with that!! It does not have to be better just because it is better known. Don’t confuse popularity with quality.

Now all this being said, the Dallas-Fort Worth- Arlington Metro is considered one metropolitan area which does provide additional public transportation from city to city. Okay, now that we have those arguments cleared up, let me tell you about the places we loved in both cities!

Fort Worth

Maybe I should save the best for last, but I don’t have to play by the rules! I am going to tell you all the reasons I love Fort Worth and then we can chat about Dallas. So here we go!

Stockyards

Honestly, I could probably just spend a whole weekend at the Stockyards and be totally happy. There are fun shops, amazing food, and live music! If you have read any of my other travel posts you know that is basically my love language.

The Stockyards are in the northern part of Fort Worth and close to a small airport if you would like to fly directly into Fort Worth. In The Stockyards you will find events that capture western culture like daily cattle runs and you can’t go wrong with a good country concert!

And if the food, events, and live music isn’t quite enough, what about the world’s largest honkey tonk? Billy Bob’s Texas is a 100,000 sq. ft. country & western night club and it can only be found in The Stockyards of Fort Worth!

I’m sold. But let’s continue.

Downtown Fort Worth

Downtown Fort Worth is smaller than Dallas but honestly I think that is what I like about it! It is very clean, classy, and has every thing you would want out of a major city!

There is a wonderful zoo, botanical garden, museums, parks, and cultural districts! If you stay downtown Fort Worth it is only about a 10 min drive to The Stockyards which is perfect. The hotels here are also very affordable for great locations!

Sundance Square

Before you @ me, I know this is technically part of downtown. But it deserves it’s own section. Sundance Square is where you would want to spend majority of your time in downtown Fort Worth. It is where you will find the nightlife and entertainment of your dreams!

Full of wonderful shops, coffee shops, ice cream parlors, bars, restaurants, comedy clubs, and more! You cannot go wrong any time of day with Sundance. I love the vibe here and would absolutely go back again and again.

Dallas

Okay, now I never said I didn’t like Dallas. I just said I would choose Fort Worth over Dallas every time. But if you prefer the more popular choice, here is what I loved about Dallas!

AT&T Stadium

Now, AT&T Stadium is technically in Arlington which is right in the middle of Dallas and Fort Worth. But for the sake of this post I am going to give it to Dallas.

I’m not a cowboys fan by any means but I can’t deny that they have a magnificent stadium. Unfortunately, the tours were closed while we were there visiting. But I have heard the stadium tours are 100% worth it and next time we visit I hope we can take the tour!

Downtown Dallas

Okay, downtown Dallas is HUGE! Like it is a very large city. Now, I love big cities and I do not have a problem getting lost in a concrete jungle, but I don’t love all big cities.

If you are just looking at the things to do here it has plenty! Food, shops, hotels, museums, and all the entertainment you can imagine! But that being said, it was kind of dirty and didn’t feel super safe in every area that we went.

But you could certainly keep yourself entertained for a weekend here and you probably wouldn’t have any issues!

Dallas Market Center

Located just slightly north of the downtown district, the Dallas Market Center is one of my favorite markets we have been to! It is also close enough to downtown that you can walk or take a very short Uber to get to it.

The Dallas Market Center is an indoor vendor location full of everything you can imagine. They have different events every month and are constantly bringing in new retailers for you to choose from!

The building is amazing and the best part is how many vendors are local shops and eateries from around the city! We always try to support local whenever we can and this market brings so many local retailers into one central location.

Dallas Farmers Market

The Farmers market located right in the heart of downtown Dallas is also worth noting! It is one of the larger farmers markets we found and had everything you could possibly imagine.

If we lived in Dallas we would be at the farmer’s market every weekend getting our produce and trying fun new products and pastries! I’m a sucker for a good farmer’s market and I hope wherever we end up in Florida can hold up to the Dallas standard!

Now that you know my opinion on the Dallas/Fort Worth area I want to know yours! After you visit the area let me know what you thought and where your favorite places to visit were?!

  1. I’ve been meaning to make my way over to Dallas (I live about 7 hours away), especially now that things are starting to open up and the weather is complying, ha!) Just the fact that they have a farmers market is enough to convince me!

  2. I would lobe to visit Texas just to get a taste of freedom again with no masks. It might feel so weird though!
