Copycat Disneyland Beignets

Copycat Disneyland Beignets

Even though Disneyland & Disneyworld are still currently closed down, that does not mean we can’t enjoy Disney treats at home! Today we are making beignets. I have tried so many Disney treats and I will be so honest, most of them were a FAIL!! Not because of Disney or the places I pulled the recipes, but because apparently baking is really hard lol. Don’t believe me? Peep this picture of the churros I tried to make with my little cousin!

Yeah, don’t worry, we laughed a lot too haha. But after so much trial and error we finally got these Mickey beignets to work! And holy cow they are delicious. This recipe was actually adapted from disneylandtourguide.com but we had to change a few things to get it to work in our elevation of Utah!
We also included all the delicious ways to spice up this recipe and things to dip the beignets into!

Also, did y’all hear that they are redesigning Splash Mountain to be Princess and the Frog? I am so excited about this! Princess Tianna is one of my all time favorites and these beignets always remind me of her.

Our batch made about a dozen beignets with a 4″ cookie cutter but we had a little dough left over and we also had a few trial and error pieces so keep that in mind!

Ingredients

1/2 teaspoon instant yeast

1/4 cup warm water

1/4 cup sugar

2 tablespoons vegetable shortening

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup heavy cream

1 large egg

4 cups all-purpose

1/2 cup boiling water

Olive Oil to fry in (we use kirkland olive oil from Costco!)

Directions

1. Sprinkle yeast into warm water in a small bowl, stir to dissolve, let sit 5 minutes

2. Combine sugar, shortening, salt, heavy cream, egg, flour, and boiling water in a mixing bowl. Stir in yeast mixture.

3. Using a standing mixer with a dough hook combine ingredients until dough is fully combined

4. Roll into 1/4 inch thick sheet and cut out shapes using your Mickey cookie cutter

5. Cover with a towel on parchment paper and let dough rise until doubled in size (ours took approximately 2 hours!)

6. Heat oil to 350 degrees

7. Fry beignets until golden brown

Side note! We could only do one beignet at a time or else the oil temp would change too much. It took about 4 minutes on each side to cook all the way through. We did so many tester pieces to figure this out! The original recipe was done at sea level and said it took about 3 minutes on each side and they could do 3 – 4 at a time. Hopefully those two pieces of information will help you figure out which one works best for you in your area!

Traditionally these are served with just powdered sugar but of course we had to try it with everything we could possibly find! Here is a list of things we loved to dip them in.

Strawberry Jam

Jalepeno Jam (yes, this was amazing)

Peanut Butter

Syrup

Honey

Peanut Butter & Syrup together!

Also Peanut Butter & Honey!

We also sliced bananas and put them in the middle of one and it was amazing!

Until we can all go back to Disneyland, I hope you enjoy these beignets from home! Let us know what you try with these and what your favorite dipping sauce is!
