Museums to Visit in Nashville, TN

Museums are sort of a weird concept that I am obsessed with. Each museum is entirely unique and has such individual things to offer and the exhibits are ever changing! That absolutely blows my mind. It first started to fascinate me during an art history class. I knew I would love to see these works in person. They are some of the most famous art pieces in history. But if I picked my top 3; Mona Lisa, The Starry Night, and Lady with an Ermine, I would have to visit 3 different countries just to see them all. If I were to go beyond my top 3? I might never see all the art this world has to offer!!

Is that not absolutely crazy to you?! It seriously boggles me. But I understand that art is owned by countries and museums and often times purchased for copious amounts of currency. So, while I understand the logistics I cannot wrap my mind around the fact that I may never see all of my favorite paintings. Moral of my mini rant is that I visit every museum possible. I have accidentally stumbled across AMAZING works of art just by walking into a museum. My obsession does not end with art museums! Every time Tyrell and I visit a new city we try to set aside a day to visit art museums, science museums, natural history museums, and hall of fames! Because seriously, I could never see enough dinosaur bones and outfits that famous musicians or football players wore. What can I say, I think its neat!

On our most recent trip to Nashville, TN our schedule was no different. We included time to visit all of the museums and halls that we desired and I think we compiled a pretty great list! There are a few on this list we did not have the time to visit in person but everyone recommended them. If you have any additional museums in Nashville, let me know for our next visit!

The Parthenon of the West

As a true Greek, y’all know I had to check out The Parthenon of the West. A life size replica of The Parthenon built for Nashville’s centennial celebration. Loving the recreation so much, citizens partitioned for the building not to be torn down with the others after the centennial! Since then it has been reconstructed with longer lasting products and a statue of Athena and Nike as well as many other sculptures of the Greek gods. The lower level is a museum which features local artists! And the upper level is full of Greek mythology. It was facinating! It was absolutely beautiful and such an awesome experience to be able to walk through and see the history that I didn’t even know was there!

Country Music Hall of Fame

If you have been following us on social media, it is no secret that I am a country music FAN. My Spotify is full of country playlists and my go to karaoke songs consist of Shania Twain, Dixie Chicks, and Garth Brooks. A few times a year I throw on jeans and my shit kickers and round up my girls for a country music concert. Oh, and you will always catch me at the local fair on concert night! So my point is, if you love country music this is the place for you. Even if you don’t love country music it is pretty fascinating! You have to remember that legends such as Johnny Cash and Waylon and Willie are all   members of the hall of fame. To be able to read their stories and see their original albums is amazing! Music history really has impacted and shaped our society and I always think it is important to learn about it!

Johnny Cash Museum

Let’s be honest, who doesn’t love Johnny Cash? The best way to spend an afternoon is to honor him and have lunch in the cafe! Yep, this museum also has amazing food. Cash is an icon and spending the day learning about his life is worth your time. This is an amazing place to visit. It is full of history and the life of an amazing man. If you don’t feel in your soul the burning passion of a ring of fire then you didn’t take in the full experience.

Adventure Science Center

As I previously mentioned, science museums are awesome. Call me a nerd, but Tyrell and I turn into little kids again when you put a science experiment in front of us! We were literally waiting in line with  a bunch of 6 year olds to shoot a potato gun. JUDGE ME! Well, I must say that this particular science museum was geared more towards children. We still had a blast exploring but it wasn’t quite as fit for adults as some of them we have visited! However, if you are visiting Nashville with kids then I highly recommend taking them here! It has so much to offer. The best part about science museums is that kids (of all ages) can have fun and learn something new at the same time! And while science museums can be very similar, each one has something new to offer which is why we keep going to new ones!
