Simple Homemade Sausage Gravy for Biscuits and Gravy

Simple Homemade Sausage Gravy for Biscuits and Gravy

My hubby’s FAVORITE meal is biscuits and gravy. He told me that I need to put it in our meal plan every week. Luckily my mom taught me the best recipe for this yummy comfort food!

This recipe makes enough for my family of three for two meals. We eat it one day and save the rest for cheat meal the next week. After it is unfrozen, add a little more milk to thin it out as it heats back up.

I always serve mine over Pillsbury Grands™ flaky layers with a splash of hot sauce. Mostly because I haven’t yet mastered making my own biscuits, but also because they are my favorite! Another way I use it is to serve the gravy over some hash browns with a fried egg or two. Let me know what you like to use it for, or if you have a biscuit recipe for me in the comments below!

Ingredients

1/2 lb hot breakfast sausage (or regular)

3 slices of bacon

2 1/2 c milk

4Tbs flour

1 1/2 tsp ground black pepper

1/2 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)

  1. Cut the bacon into small pieces and start to cook in a large pot. Once it looks about half way cooked, add the sausage. Cook until slightly crisp. I’ve noticed cooking the meat until slightly crisp kept it from getting soggy in the gravy.
  2. Add the 4 Tbs of flour to the cooking meat and stir until thoroughly mixed. Next add the seasonings and mix again.
  3. Add the milk and stir. Bring up to a slight bubble, then drop the heat and let simmer until thick stirring occasionally. DO NOT LET BOIL!
  4. Serve however you would like! Store the leftovers in freezer bags once cooled.
