7 Places to Go in Atlanta, GA

One of the places I was super excited to visit on our road trip was Atlanta, GA. I had heard so many amazing things about the city and I had a feeling I would love it! And the good news is, I did! It was so fun and there was so much to do and see!

We also got a bunch of recommendations from our friend’s mom who used to live there! Getting tips from a local is always the best way to see a city. Thanks to her advice and my Pinterest boards, these are the 6 things you must see in Atlanta!

Centennial Olympic Park

Olympic Park in Atlanta is so beautiful and basically right downtown! It is very close to the University campus and right by the aquarium and Coca Cola museum! The location could not be better.

But the coolest thing in Olympic Park are the Fountain of Olympic Rings! I have always loved the Olympics and seeing the giant ring water fountain in down town Atlanta was just so cool! There is a water show every so often that you need to see.

Martin Luther King Jr. Historical Park (&More)

Martin Luther King Jr. grew up in Atlanta so there is actually a lot dedicated to him. The historical park is a great place to start with information about his life and more!

You also need to see his burial site, his house, and the shotgun houses where he grew up! The church he and his father were pastors at is just down the block. And there are so many pieces of art dedicated to him around the city. You need to see it all!

Stone Mountain State Park

This is about 30 minutes outside of Atlanta but definitely worth the drive if you have a car! It is absolutely beautiful and offers an awesome view of the city.

It is also home to some awesome statues and plaques dedicated to the history of the city! You can learn so much at Stone Mountain State Park. Pack dinner and have a picnic here in the evening to enjoy the view.

Ponce City Market

This was definitely one of the coolest indoor market areas we have been to! I know I would spend so much time here if I lived in Atlanta. It has so many restaurants and breweries to grab some food & drink. Then it has awesome shops on the second floor!

This is a place you can just hang out with friends or visit some cute local boutiques! Everyone can find something they like here. It is definitely a place we plan to take our friends next time we all visit together.

Oakland Cemetery

A cemetery? Are you sure?Let me start by saying I love walking through old cemeteries but this one is extra special. First of all, it isn’t just head stones laying in the ground. No, it is huge tombs and sculptures and gardens and gazebos!

People have events here like weddings and school field trips all the time! It is also home to some Atlanta super stars (including Margaret Mitchell!) You can spend forever walking around and you still won’t be able to see everything this cemetery has to offer.

Peachtree Street

Schedule some time in your day to walk down Peachtree Street. But make sure you are on the correct Peach Tree Street because pretty much everything in Georgia is named after the peach lol. But you’ll know when you get here.

This is like the main street in the city with the nice fancy shops and buildings. You can’t miss it! We were just in awe of all the businesses and shops right here in down town! It definitely gives you a vibe of Atlanta and you don’t want to miss it.

Little 5 Points

The coolest little drag for knickknack shops and coffee bars! Little 5 Points was this super cool artsy part of town that offered shops, food, and drinks for everyone to enjoy.

This is the type of place you could go sit at a little coffee shop, drink the best coffee of your life, and people watch for hours! You will also probably meet some dope ass locals that will tell you all the coolest things to do and see in Atlanta!

  1. I’ve always wanted to go to Atlanta. I really want to visit Peach Tree street. I’m definitely going to plan a trip there and visit some of these places.

  2. As a GA native, I have to say you hit all the best places for people that have not been here before. The world of Coke is really a treat along the aquarium since it is the largest in the world currently. My husband just did a little work for the new predator tank released last fall. My only adds would be the greasy spoon of breakfast at the Silver Skillet Cafe (great celebrity watching ) and The (iconic) Varsity by GA Tech.

    1. That is so awesome! Those sound like two things we definitely need to check out next time we go! We actually had planned on eating at The Varsity but we just ran out of time so I know we need to try it soon!
