5 Best Activities to do in San Antonio, TX

Fun fact! I lost my very first tooth on New Year’s Eve of 2000 (About to turn 2000? Technically 1999) at a Hooter’s in San Antonio. Cool, right? Well 20 years later I decided it was time to tackle the city as an adult! This time with no missing teeth and eating better food than Hooters lol.

San Antonio is one of my favorite cities in Texas and this trip did not change my mind! It is gorgeous and historic. There is so much to do and see! I chose my top 5 favorite activities but there are so many other options as well! There is truly something for everyone in this city.

The Alamo

Remember The Alamo!!!! A war cry for some, a travel tip for others! But really, remember to add The Alamo to your San Antonio itinerary. It is so cool!

We went originally because Tyrell is super into this sort of thing. And I wanted to go just because it is so famous and I felt like we had to. That being said it was one of my favorite historical attractions we have been to! The grounds are so neat and they do awesome demonstrations about what life was like during the battle of The Alamo.

This is a perfect destination for your whole family. The history will captivate adults and children alike and the garden is a great place for kids to explore!

San Antonio River Walk

Probably the most famous river walk, San Antonio is home to the river walk connecting over 2000 acres of land! How cool is that?! It is amazing and there is so much to do and see along the path.

Restaurants, shops, entertainment, and more! Everything you could possibly want can be found along the San Antonio River Walk. And hope off any time and explore the city above!

Tower of the Americas

Built in 1968 for the Hemisfair World’s Fair, these towers also commemorate 250 years of San Antonio being a city! Tyrell and I have actually found a new love for cities that hosted a World’s Fair. They usually have some really neat buildings left behind and our goal is to see them all!

The tower does offer tickets to take a ride to the top and take in the view of the city. We did not do this feature as we decided we’ve spent enough money going to the top of tall buildings in our lives! But if you have never done it before, this would be a great place to start!

San Fernando Cathedral

Now, we love walking through churches. We are Greek Orthodox but we love exploring churches of all denominations. Even if churches aren’t your thing, you may want to add this one to your list!

Even if you don’t go inside for a tour. Plan on sitting outside this church of this church on Tuesday evenings and Friday – Sunday evenings to watch the light show! That’s right, this church does a light show.

Right in the middle of Main Plaza video projectors cast a vision of San Antonio history and culture right onto this gorgeous church building. It is so worth your time and a must see if you are in San Antonio!

Historic Market Square

This area of town is an area that celebrates old Mexican culture in history. Find shops and restaurants that captivate the local culture and history like nothing else.

We always try to find the markets in town but this one was extra special! With the strong Mexican influence we were able to find unique and creative items unlike any other market we’ve been to. I highly recommend spending some of your trip exploring this district.

When you plan your trip to San Antonio we’d love to hear what you add to your itinerary! These are just a few of our favorite things but we think they are the best!

If you are wanting to check out some other place in Texas, we love Waco & Fort Worth!

    1. Yes absolutely! The very first time I ever went to Sant Antonio as a kid was for New Years and all of the Christmas Lights were still up! GORGEOUS! I still remember it all these years later.
